Last Tuesday, the Alumni Society hosted the Student-Alumni Mentoring Workshop. Carrie Bomgardner, a 1997 graduate in Animal Sciences and a 2001 MBA graduate, Dan Loughner, a 1978 graduate in Plant Sciences and a 1981 Plant Pathology graduate, Katie Hetherington, a 2006 graduate in Ag Business Management and Ag and Extension Education, Dave Dell, a 1976 graduate in Ag Mechanization, and Eric Cowden, a 2003 graduate in Ag and Extension Education met with twenty students over the course of the afternoon. Students came from a variety of majors and a variety of backgrounds. Two international students came, as well as a few recent transfers from Commonwealth campuses.
Students had the opportunity to sit down with alumni and have mock interviews, as well as to discuss future jobs and career paths. At the end of the day, a diploma frame donated by the Ag Alumni Society was raffled off to a student participant.
The biggest feedback received from students was that they wished they could have had more time to meet with the alumni. To help with this, we are looking at hosting more events in the future, so keep your eye out for information concerning the next workshop!
